- 3 pcs garlic cloves
- 1 medium red bell pepper
- 400 g canned kidney beans
- 400 g canned chopped tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp salt
Cooking instructions
- Prepare ingredients — Dice the onion and red bell pepper finely. Mince the garlic cloves.
- Cook the aromatics — Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, and bell pepper. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Brown the beef — Add ground beef to the pan and cook, stirring frequently, until browned and cooked through.
- Add spices and tomato — Stir in chili powder, ground cumin, smoked paprika, and salt. Add the canned chopped tomatoes and tomato paste. Mix well.
- Simmer the chilli — Reduce heat to low and let simmer uncovered for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add beans and finish cooking — Add the canned kidney beans (drained and rinsed) to the pot. Simmer for another 10 minutes until flavors are blended and the chilli thickens.
- Serve warm — Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve the chilli con carne hot, optionally with rice, sour cream, or grated cheese.
