Ingredients

  • 4 sheets lavash bread
  • 300 grams ground beef
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 200 ml tomato sauce
  • 150 grams mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper

Cooking instructions

  1. Prepare the ground beef filling — Finely chop the onion and garlic. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and sauté onion and garlic until translucent. Add ground beef, oregano, salt, and pepper. Cook until browned and no longer pink. Stir in half of the tomato sauce and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
  2. Assemble the lavash rolls — Lay out one sheet of lavash bread on a clean surface. Spread about 1/4 of the beef mixture evenly along one edge, sprinkle with some mozzarella cheese, then roll tightly into a log. Repeat the process with remaining lavash sheets and filling.
  3. Prepare the baking dish — Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Lightly grease a baking dish with olive oil. Pour the remaining tomato sauce into the bottom of the dish, spreading evenly.
  4. Arrange rolls in the baking dish — Place the lavash rolls seam side down into the tomato sauce in the baking dish, fitting them snugly side by side.
  5. Top and bake the casserole — Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese over the top of the arranged rolls. Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 5–10 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Serve and enjoy — Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Cut rolls as desired and enjoy this comforting baked lavash roll-up casserole.
